qwatz announces a new international collaboration for the latest edition of the Italian Council of the DGCC – MIC (Ministry of Culture).
Every year, the Italian Council supports the development of new works by Italian artists in collaboration with international partners.
The Oracular Eavesdropper by Francesco Fonassi – of which qwatz is one of the cultural partners – is one of the winning projects of the 2024 edition with the Museum of Contemporary Art Roskilde (project leader).
The project challenges the idea of site-specific sound work by investigating how sound can connect different and distant places. In 2025, the artist will begin his research in the mythical desert area known as the Mapimí “Silent Zone” in Mexico, in collaboration with El Eco Experimental Museum. This first phase will be followed by an artist residency and workshop that Francesco Fonassi will develop at the ESAD Institute in Grenoble.
In 2026, the work produced during the research in Mexico will be published in various formats (vinyl and catalog) and will be presented in the form of an installation as a sound work in various public spaces in both Denmark and Italy. Finally, the work will become part of the collection of the Museion, Museum of Contemporary Art in Bolzano.
The Oracular Eavesdropper is a project realized by the Museum of Contemporary Art Roskilde with Francesco Fonassi.
In collaboration with Museion – Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (Bolzano), ESAD, École supérieure d’Art de Grenoble (Grenoble), El Eco Experimental Museum (Mexico City) and other partners such as Xing (Bologna) and qwatz, contemporary art platform (Rome).
