Rattles and Something Else – Riccardo Baruzzi

On May 6, SUTURA will inaugurate the exhibition “Rattles and Something Else” by artist Riccardo Baruzzi.

The works on display include a series of paintings created in 2022, a new group of sculptures created in dialogue with the space, and a chair conceived as a “relational object” and placed within the spaces of the Istituto Fisicoterapico di Torino.

The central element of the exhibition is a reflection on the medium (medium) and on discipline: Baruzzi is undisciplined by choice. The artist’s investigation proposes a general subversion of perspective: the frontal viewing of a work, the use of canonical positions in its execution, the choice of lofty subjects—which in some way have an evident centrality within a cultural context—are here overturned and reversed through a journey immersed in the sound generated by the wind blowing through the plants.

The installation in the center of the room evokes the shape of reeds, the dense vegetation that inhabits the areas of the Ravenna valley, and presents a powerful sound.

Baruzzi’s reflection on the profound meaning of the perspective from which we view the world is brought to the Istituto Fisicoterapico in Turin with Portraits, 2023. This work (recently exhibited in the exhibition Pittura Italiana Oggi, Triennale di Milano) consists of two interconnected seats, reminiscent of the situation of the street portraitist.

The work will be activated by the artist and will remain in the IFT spaces as a station that can be used even in his absence. A sheet of instructions will invite those who wish to try the experience of approaching portraiture from another perspective.

The work evokes the cognitive processes through which human beings relate to the world, and uses them in poetic form as tools to enhance the experience of knowledge as a creative force.
